I am exploring a consolidation of my FFEL loans to a Direct Consolidation loan.
As soon as I was out of school, my FFEL loans were consolidated into 2 consolidation loans. One with all the subsidized and one with all the unsubsidized.
I am seeing the following note here (https://studentaid.gov/manage-loans/consolidation) on the studentaid.gov website:
"Generally, you cannot consolidate an existing consolidation loan unless you include an additional eligible loan in the consolidation."
My loans do not qualify for any of the caveats it gives for existing FFEL consolidation loans on that webpage.
Does this mean I'm out of luck to consolidate to Direct? Thank you!
No, you should be able to consolidate FFEL to Direct. Start the process and you'll see it happen.
