Topics - Consumer Reports

Greetings all,
We wanted to let the members of this forum know about a discussion this coming Tuesday, September 14, about the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program.  The online event is hosted by Consumer Reports in collaboration with the Education Debt Consumer Assistance Program, NY Department of Financial Services Student Borrower Protection Unit, and Student Borrower Protection Center.

The Public Service Loan Forgiveness program is a great idea gone bad: student borrowers who work 10 years in public service were promised that their remaining student debt would be forgiven. But because of bureaucracy and red tape, the Department of Education rejects 98 out of every 100 public service workers who apply to have their debts canceled -- leaving our troops, hospital workers, public school teachers, and other public servants with debt and broken promises.  Perhaps some members of this forum have also experienced rejection from the program.

Please join us to learn about how we can work to fix this program so that it works for student loan borrowers working in public service, and what recourse you may have if you've been rejected.
