Recertification of IBR
« on: May 29, 2017, 09:01:38 PM »
I'm on the IBR plan. I need to recertify soon. My husband and I file jointly on our tax return. He is a 100% disabled veteran, so his benefits are non taxable and therefore are not included on our tax return.  Mine is the only income that shows on there for adjusted gross income. He doesn't want to co sign for my student loan or have his income considered. We keep things pretty separate. So what option do I click when filling it out? I wanted to choose the option where I don't have access to his financials or signature, but I don't want to get denied. Thank you for your time.

Using your joint income has nothing to do with him. It doesn't cosign him or anything (the loans are in your name only). Since you filed jointly, you don't have a choice when it comes to how your income will be considered.
