Federal Student Loan Center --- SCAM?
« on: March 29, 2018, 12:12:23 PM »
I received a phone call from Federal Student Loan Center and they said they saw that I have outstanding federal student loans and they might be able to help clear them for me. They said there is a grant the government has for outstanding federal student loans and that there is money set aside for those who go to college and need help paying off their federal loans. I did have to make four payments of $187.50 - now I'm concerned I've been scammed because I’ve tried to reach out to them via phone and email and nobody is getting back to me. They did set up a portal for me online showing all of my federal student loans and their detailed information and the four payments made of $187.50 from November 2017-February 2018. I don’t understand how they would get access to my FAFSA login if they weren’t legitimate. Please let me know if you’ve heard of this company and if it’s legitimate or a scam! I don't know what to do next. It figures that it was too good to be true.

Thank you.

If you have Federal student loans, you don't have to pay a company for help. You can do it all for free at StudentLoans.gov or by calling your lender.

Companies can get access to your information in a variety of ways.

You can always use a third party company for help. Before you do, make sure you read our guide and look for red flags: https://thecollegeinvestor.com/16429/is-your-student-loan-repayment-company-a-scam/
