We are in rehabilitation for my husbands defaulted student loans. We are about to sell our house and have a lump sum to pay them off. Will it hurt our credit to just pay them off completely instead of completing the rehab or is the fact that they are paid off the only important part. We need our credit to be better and so if we need to continue the rehab we can, but would prefer to just be done with it if that will get us the same results.

No, it will help your credit score to pay them off! Get them gone as quickly as possible.
