I have a bit of a complicated situation that I have not been able to find an answer to.  I was recently hired to work at the TRADOC Analysis Center through the Army (link to their website provided here for background: http://www.trac.army.mil/ ).  My position there is as a civilian analyst - though I am employed directly through TRADOC Analysis Center (I am not a contractor / I file a W-2).

Would this type of position be one that would allow me to make qualifying payments toward PSLF?  And if so, would I check "Military Service" on question 14 section 3 (Military Service being defined as (emphasis mine):service on behalf of the U. S. Armed Forces or the National Guard performed by an employee of a public service organization)?

Thanks for any help!

*Edit: Also, would I lose the ability to have my DIRECT Federal loans forgiven if I consolidate them?

Yes, if the DoD is your employer (and not a contractor like BAE, Northrop, etc), it counts. You actually should check box 9, since the government is your employer. You are then done in that section.

For your other question, it all depends on your loan types. Here's an article to read: https://thecollegeinvestor.com/18164/the-problems-with-student-loan-consolidation/
